What is means to vote or provide estimates on Owler data…
Why are you asking me questions about your data?
The questions we ask in emails and on the web are a way you and other members of the Owler community can derive value from our platform. We collect information about companies from you and the rest of our community – and the community’s answers to those questions intelligently make their way back to our company profiles and make the information we push back out much more accurate and valuable. It is a true crowdsourced model where we all collectively become smarter by collectively sharing our knowledge. It also keeps Owler free – instead of paying us with cash, you pay us with knowledge.
How do I vote on Owler’s data?
Two primary ways. First, you can answer questions on the emails we send you or the while you are browsing Owler.com. You can also edit the data directly on a company profile – simply click on “Update this Profile” button on the top of the Owler profile to get going.
You do need to sign up (free) with Owler to edit data. There is a button at the top of the page which says “sign up”. Click this and complete the onboarding process. It will take ~1 mins, but after you’ll be able to edit anything, just as you do with a site like Wikipedia. All edits are verified with our team.
Are my votes and edits anonymous?
Your vote on those quick questions everywhere is ALWAYS anonymous. We don’t share your info with anyone. Period.
If you edit data on a company profile (not the quick question types) we do track your edit using your screename, which was randomly assigned to you when you onboarded. If someone looks at a revision history for an edit, they would see this screename. You can always change this screename under Owler.com > Menu > My Account at any time. This, by default does not have any identifying info in it, but if you have changed it to your real name, then yes, others could track the changes you have made on a profile. Short answer, yes, by default all of your inputs on Owler are anonymous.
