I first met Kevin Akeroyd during the cold nuclear winter that followed the first dot-com bust. He was my boss. I was VP of Sales at Digital Impact, and he was the SVP of Global Sales and Services.
Three years later, after I founded Jigsaw, we switched roles: he served as COO during my tenure as CEO.
Now, we’re swapping spots on the professional food chain yet again as he joins the ranks of my bosses on the Owler Board of Directors. It looks like I’ll have to hire him as an employee again at some point in the future so we can continue our ongoing game of leadership leap frog.
In all seriousness, I could not be more excited to welcome Kevin to our board. He’s one of the most talented individuals that I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. He has an unshakably positive attitude and works harder than anyone I know. I tease him that he isn’t human – he sleeps about four hours a night.
His resume isn’t so bad, either. Most recently he was the GM of Oracle Marketing Cloud, and he currently runs a massive business at Cision on a clear path to becoming a billion dollar revenue business.
Salesforce bought Jigsaw in May of 2010 for $175M (its first big acquisition) and Kevin deserves the lion’s share of the credit. Kevin is one of the best dealmakers on the planet and knows more about the data business than anyone I can think of.
Most importantly we have been close friends for years. I feel so fortunate to have the luxury of working with people who I admire, respect, and deeply like on a personal level. I also love to kick his butt in poker, and I’m looking forward to swiping many more of his poker chips at Owler Poker Night now that he’s on our board of directors.
Welcome to Owler Kevin!
