We created Owler to help save busy professionals one of the things you value most — time.
We want to help save you time in other areas of work too. Check out some time saving tools – many of which we use ourselves – for five common work responsibilities:
1. Scheduling: Assistant.to
The pitch: Assistant.to helps you schedule meetings in one email, no back and forth required
What they do: You’ve probably heard this before: You’re trying to schedule a meeting and are having a hard time figuring out when your schedules overlap. You’ve tried external sites or long email chains, but you’re frustrated that there isn’t an easier way to find a solution without leaving your email client.
Problem solved: Assistant.to is a scheduling client that’s built into your email. With a few clicks that never take you away from your inbox, you offer your contact a variety of schedule options and set a date and time with just one email.
What we love: Its simplicity and ease-of-use, and the email chains from which it saves us.
2. Contact Insights: Rapportive
The pitch: Rapportive brings information on your contacts straight to your inbox so you can learn more about who you’re working with.
What they do: If you haven’t downloaded Rapportive yet, you absolutely should. A Gmail plugin, Rapportive aggregates information on your email contacts and presents it side-by-side with your conversations. Valuable and actionable without being intrusive, the plugin provides great insights into contacts. It also allows you to take notes on individuals for later reference – great for salespeople!
What we love: Tracking potential clients and competitors is right up our alley, and we’ve been using Rapportive since we started. It saves us the time of going through many a Google search. Plus, it’s free.
3. Rapid Webpage A/B Testing: Optimizely
The pitch: Optimizely helps you quantify A/B testing variations so you can make data-driven decisions.
What they do: Here’s one for the marketer in the room. Optimizely provides quick, customizable A/B testing software. After installing a few lines of code you can easily create page variations to figure out what works best on your website. Edit text, change a button, or try an entirely new design. Their analytics integrations make it easy to track conversion funnels without any added stress.
What we love: Along with their web software, we’re especially looking forward to Optimizely’s mobile testing software. Waiting weeks to test and roll out new features and changes is a pain, so we can’t wait for the new offering!
4. Quick & Easy Payment Processing: Dwolla
The pitch: Dwolla helps you process online payments quickly and very cheaply. It’s just $0.25 per transaction, or free if under $10. That’s ridiculously low.
What they do: It’s actually that simple. Dwolla makes it super easy to transfer money to one person or thousands with a click of a button. Deposit straight to your bank account (no cards required). With such a low cost per transaction it’s hard to consider using another payment alternative.
What we love: Its simplicity and low rates. In the payments game it’s all about transaction costs, and Dwolla bucks the trend of other companies to provide users with a near-free transfer service.
5. Super-Powered Search: Alfred
The pitch: Built for Mac OS X, Alfred is a smart search and productivity tool. Create personal shortcuts to save time and access files and programs more quickly.
What they do: Pressing Alt + Space (in the default setting) brings up the Alfred search box, which contains a plethora of shortcuts and search options that remove all those “in-between” steps that you often navigate when trying to find something on your computer. It’s similar to Apple’s built-in Spotlight search feature but much, much smarter. It learns as you search to surface your most-used applications, contacts, and shortcuts for an even smoother experience.
What we love: The ability to go to a site or search the web in seconds without opening a browser. If, for example, we’re curious about Tesla stock, we can open Alfred and type “google TSLA.” (You can also find something on Wikipedia or Amazon this way.) After a few searches, we need only type “TSLA” and Alfred knows that we’re looking to search through Google. Type a URL like www.owler.com and it’ll open the page for you right away.
Do you use any of these tools in your workplace? Have others that you can’t live without? In the meanwhile, spend five minutes with Owler and get up-to-date on all the competitive intelligence you need. (It’s free: try it out now.)
