Chances are, if you use Owler, you’re most familiar with the daily newsletter we drop in your inbox each morning. This newsletter, what we call the Daily Snapshot, is one of Owler’s most popular features because it delivers readers a customized and curated set of news articles about companies they’re interested in. There’s actually a TON of intelligence that goes into making that newsletter as tasty and light as your morning donut. The science behind this crave-worthy delectable is quite involved and merits a post unto its own. What I’d love to share more information about today is the awesome experience that can accompany your morning Snapshot.
Within your Snapshot you’ll find links to articles of interest as well as questions tailored specifically to you about the companies you’re following — what we call Data Cards. While the information in your Snapshot is usually pretty enticing in and of itself, you can find even more information to accompany what you’re getting in your Snapshot by clicking on any item. If you so do, you’ll be taken on a journey to a page that features even more information about the company and article you’ve clicked on. It’s like taking that donut to the next level — it’s like pairing it with a hot cup of coffee to make your overall experience robust and punchy. You’re taking your morning up a notch when you click through.
When you follow those links you’ll land on a page we call the Event Page. These are moment in-time pages that we generate around each and every event we capture in our database. Events pages are meant to provide you a way to quickly gain insight into a news event about the company as well as become up-to-date on the key stats about that company, including data around its latest revenue, employee, acquisition, funding stats and much more. This is more than just a news story page — this page jumpstarts your understanding of any news event about a company, just like nothing other than a healthy dose of caffeine and sugar can!
On the events page we curate context around the event so that you can gain a deeper understanding about the moment you are interested in. We feature the article, and other outlets that are covering the same story. On this page we also layer information about the company that was subject of the article. We’ll ensure you know all the details about that company by bringing in our latest Owler data on to the page — you’ll see revenue stats, employee information … the works.
My favorite part about these pages is the timeline. I find this piece particularly interesting because it helps me know what has been going on at a company (or hasn’t) in recent weeks. This historical view gives great insight into how to feel about the event: Germany posts lawsuit against Uber for treatment of contract workers — yawn…. that’s happened four other times already in last six months across the E.U. Apple loses trademark case over use of iPhone in China, well that’s pretty earth shattering (or screen shattering 😉 !)
Lastly, if you’re interested in becoming better educated about that event in general or about the competitors related to that company you can find suggested news events to read about. This is like adding some icing on top of that fresh, hot donut!
